Choose Your Own Adventure

Has anybody ever read one of those “Choose Your Own Adventure” books? I loved those. Basically, the title says it all. You open it to the first page, start reading – by the end of the first scene, you’re given 2+ choices, like “do you want to go with such-and-such?” or “do you want to explore on your own?”

I’d get them from the library four or five at a time and read each one dozens of times. Mostly because I died a lot. I’d end up marking my place with pieces of paper, or my fingers, and trying out all the different options until I found the right one. It was pretty sad, really.

Anyway, I bring this up because I was thinking about how hard it would be to write a novel like that. Those books were pretty short; maybe a quarter of an inch thick. So I was thinking I’d try my hand at one, one day (maybe over Spring Break?). Instead of starting from scratch, I’ll just take one of my old short stories and use it.

I’m curious to see how this will work out.

  1. I used to have ac hoose your own adventure legend of zelda book. It was fun, and yea from personal experience what you should do, is have your plot, divide it into choices, then after your done the main part write the “screw ups”. This makes it easy, and sort of fun 😛
