Dark Knight Rises Review

I’ve fulfilled my dream of attending a midnight movie showing, and I’m glad that it was with Dark Knight Rises. I’m going to attempt to give it a review without spoiling anything, which means I can’t say much, but here goes.

Dark Knight Rises picks up eight years after The Dark Knight ended to find Bruce Wayne as a recluse, having hung up his cape after taking the blame for Harvey Dent’s crimes. He’s emotionally and physically a mess and has to walk with a cane. He hasn’t even been to the bat cave in years.

All that changes with the arrival of a cat burglar who indirectly gets him interested in Bane, a foreign terrorist who’s made his way to Gotham City for unknown reasons.

This movie is both awesome and intricate. It features more violence than either of the previous movies; my older sister spent a lot of time covering her eyes. That said, it wasn’t gratuitous. There was a ton of action, but there was also a lot in terms of character development for Bruce, Commissioner Gordan, Officer Blake, and even Alfred.

I did think that Catwoman’s character wasn’t explored very well. She was cool in terms of fighting skills and thievery, but as a person she seemed one dimensional. However, I cut the movie major slack for this because there was a lot that had to happen, and she wasn’t an integral part of the plot, anyway.

As the final movie in a trilogy, it was extremely well done. It didn’t leave a thousand questions, but it left a lot to the imagination, which is exactly how I like it. I was worried about how it would all end, but it was great.

The main thing you need to know about this movie? IT’S BADASS. And how cool is Bane as a villain? Well, I have a poster of him. If that tells you anything. He’s brilliant and scary. It was awesome.

By all means, do not wait for this movie to come out on DVD. Go to the theaters and see it on the big screen. Personally, I’m planning on going to see it again, this time in IMAX.
