Back when Summer Rush was originally on Inkpop, I got a ton of feedback on it. So much of it was positive and constructive, and it really helped me to see what I should fix, what I should strengthen, and what I should leave as-is in my novel. I was feeling kind of bummed today… Continue reading Negative Critiques
This morning I flipped the page in my calendar over from the scribbled upon, ragged page of April, to the clean, freshly white page of May. There are some scribbles on this page – a reminder of my first day of work at Saddle Up, the days of my finals, my new deadline for finishing… Continue reading The Month of May
The first four chapters Summer Rush version 2.0 just went live on Inkpop (have at it!). I would admit that I’m scared and nervous, but that would be a lie. I’m petrified. I’m a basket case. I’m out of my mind with pure terror. What if it’s awful? What if I made a grammar mistake?… Continue reading It’s Up! It’s Live! It’s… Out of My Reach!
I’m getting way into all this characterization stuff. But it’s a ton of fun, and I’ll probably still be exploring my characters even after Summer Rush is finished. When Summer Rush was still up on Inkpop, I found it interesting that so many people loved the character of Jenna Ventura. Personally, Jenna was always a… Continue reading Jenna and an Acceptance Speech
I actually like deadlines (not when they’re overdue, though) for my writing. I like having the big scary thing looming over my head, because it gives the project a much bigger sense of urgency, and I’ll be more likely to get my lazy booty into gear and get writing done. At the same time, though,… Continue reading I Think I’m Going to Make It
There are fifteen more days until Summer Rush makes its grand re-debut onto Inkpop.com. Only fifteen. I’m terrified. Originally, the plan was to have the brand new, shiny book uploaded in its entirety on that day. Now, time dictates that it will be chapter by painfully rewritten chapter. It’ll be more fun that way, anyway.
I realized I haven’t talked about Inkpop in awhile. That’s not surprising, considering I haven’t even logged on to Inkpop in forever. I miss that site. I honestly think joining the site was one of the smartest things that I, as a writer, have ever done. For starters, I’d never found so many writers in… Continue reading Good Ol’ Inkpop
Do I talk about Summer Rush too much? I think I do. My apologies. I really can’t help it. Worrying and brainstorming and writing and rewriting on and about Summer Rush is all I ever do anymore. That and school. My plan for tomorrow is to go through all of the comments I’ve received on Summer… Continue reading I Think I’m Obsessing
I am encouraged because HarperCollins is publishing a book that was a top pick on Inkpop. How awesome is that? I was at the stage where I didn’t think that would ever happen. The novel is called Carrier of the Mark. I’ve never read it, although I definitely plan to! I’d like to know, as… Continue reading I Am Encouraged
When I “grow up,” I want to be a book editor. The process of taking a story and transforming it from a scary rough draft to a polished, finished project is just amazing to me. I love it. Books are just about the most wonderful thing in the world. I love to write, of course.… Continue reading Does This Make Any Sense?
